As the day draws to a close
The Ganga* loses herself in the sea
Poetry words blunt into prose
The night writes the stars for me
The hawk-eye is fixed on the mice
Worms shift to beaks from the bark
Flowing water hardens into ice
I’ve fireflies to write in the dark
I am glad that I was born
I am glad that I shall die
I am glad that my path was of thorn
I will never ask Thou why
*The Ganges
So poignant.. a beautiful write…
Flowing water hardens into ice
I’ve fireflies to write in the dark
Sigh… gorgeous write Sumana ❤
This is a brilliant poem. I read it again and again. So deep and meaningful 🙂
I love this:
“The Ganga* loses herself in the sea
Poetry words blunt” … especially the idea of rolling poetry words into a blunt. Very clever, if that was intentional.
Also this section:
“Worms shift to beaks from the bark
Flowing water hardens into ice
I’ve fireflies to write in the dark”
Great work!
Really good, I can’t choose a verse I like the most. Poignant
Sumana this is absolutely breathtaking…’The night writes the stars for me’ just one of the many powerful lines in this amazing poem!
Sumana, your poems of faith always move me. I especially love “the night writes the stars for me”….and the hawk-eye verse.
Absolutely beautiful. The calm acceptance that life with all its ups and downs just is, is quite inspiring.
wow. really like that last stanza. there is a strong acceptance in it,
of taking life as it comes and knowing it will come to a close
one day, but for today, i will live it.
Beautiful….especially the concluding lines! Ah, life is not fair, and we are some times the toys of circumstances!!
So very meaningful!
This poem is so poignant and deep , Sumana. Loved these lines:
“The hawk-eye is fixed on the mice
Worms shift to beaks from the bark”
I like the idea of fireflies writing in the dark.
Nice image.
This is simply profound. “The night writes the stars for me”- loved this line especially… 🙂
Change is the only constant.
WOW! The flow! Each thing in motion seeking its/their level reveals the truth about human life and endeavor as well. I have tears in my eyes. This is my new favorite.
Wonderful poem, Sumana. Accepting the gift of life, no matter how thorny the path we have to tread is the ultimate acceptance.
