Music

What keeps you ticking

when you feel like dying?

Hunger. It pushes me forward

and lifts me up

from the ashes and debris

of what was once mine.

And what keeps your soul alive?

Music. It converts my tears into joy.

I lend my ears to every note

while picking up

the shards of my pieced self

to restore.

  1. You capture the potential that music can have over our souls.. i particularly like the image you have chosen too – there is a sense of each instrument waiting for the right owner to sing their own song

  2. This is absolutely stunning a write, Sumana❤️ especially love “I lend my ears to every note while picking up the shards of my pieced self to restore.” Sigh… beautifully executed.

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

  3. You and I may have hit the same note of hunger and feed and bringing together the shards. But your poem silenced me for a minute and then brought forth sobs. I feel the ashes, touch the splinters, hope for the resurrection. Oh, Sumana, I can write about centers, but when I want to get to the center, I read your poems.

Thank You :)
