As I open the front windows of Time
where I’ve been dwelling since birth,
I see, Winter, with his white Kashmiri shawl
over his shoulder,
slowly trudging out of sight;
while the spring bird,
diligently weaving happiness
into my heart
with his twittering tune.
Amidst this
I churn out a prayer
of well being
and release it through the window
to find hearts lying in wait
to dwell there forever.
I’ve also kept my
back windows wide open
where resides the past
with memories
both sweet and bitter
to keep me in reign.

That would be a wonderful way to keep ourselves sane – learn from the past, and implement the same in future!
Well said..the memories do keep us grounded.
This is so beautifully poignant, Sumana ❤️ memories both from past and present help keep us sane and grounded. Especially love “I see, Winter, with his white Kashmiri shawl over his shoulder, slowly trudging out of sight; while the spring bird, diligently weaving happiness into my heart with his twittering tune.” May hope and happiness always color your flame ❤️
Lots of love,
Sanaa
Opening that window, dwelling in time–magnificent images. I see you on top of a hill/mountain, letting those songbirds eat out of hand and heart as they flit to the back, to the front, in and out, in dark and in light.
So beautiful and profound! This is one of my favorite poems of yours.
I can SEE Winter, with his white Kashmiri shawl, trudging away as the spring birds come fluttering up to usher in spring…….loved this.
‘…the front windows of time…’ Lovely line. 🙂
I think secretly we welcome all the seasons as each have their own allure. What a beautiful poem this is.
What a captivating opening image.. keeping our doors and windows open suggested an openness of mind – and possibility
Wonderful metaphors!
where resides the past with memories
both sweet and bitter
to keep me in reign.
Going forward one also needs to be reminded of the past. It can be a guide to get over silly mistakes!
