When stormy hands of grief
try to get hold of me
to strangle me to death
I step out
set out
to the edge of water,
where indigo stream gives a hug;
green earth caresses my bare feet;
tree roofs overhead rain silence
that river into my heart
dousing ember words.
My breath like so many little boats
with white sails drift leisurely
towards the unknown shore.

I love those little breath-boats with their white sails! I so adore this poem,
Sumana.
Oh I love the image of those little boats. Nature has its own way of healing,
Oh, this is just too darn beautiful. And so very healing. Nature sure knows best how to do so 🙂
Oh, the power of water, Sumana, to soothe and wash the ‘stormy hands of grief’. I love the lines:
‘…indigo stream gives a hug’;
and
‘…breath like so many little boats
with white sails drift leisurely
towards the unknown shore’.
I love that last image! So calm and peaceful.
Beautiful imagery, indeed. Very soothing.. love how the white sails drift leisurely towards the unknown shore.<3
Indeed, this is definitely one way to approach grief. Nature’s hug and sails drifting it away.
Beautifully penned.
I liked the ending with the breath drifting to unknown shores. A good reason to keep on breathing.
Oh, it calms me down just to read this poem: terrific imagery and indeed so good to have the barefoot, healing balm of the earth and nature.
“to the edge of water,
where indigo stream gives a hug”
I like that. 🙂
…little boats with white sails … a nice analogy. Some lovely phrases here.
“…that river into my heart / dousing ember words…”. So many fine images in this poem Sumana, but I think these lines were my favorite.
ah….everyone needs to learn how to “douse ember words.” Powerful idea here!
“where indigo stream gives a hug”
wow. such beautiful and hopeful poem ❤
loved every line….especially —-My breath like so many little boats
with white sails drift leisurely
towards the unknown shore.
Lovely, and wise.
Wonderful post however I was wondering if you could write a litte more on this subject? I’d be very thankful if you could elaborate a little bit further. Kudos!|
