He starts to grind the rice,
And gazes at the moon” — Matsuo Basho

among those hapless souls
in the bobbing boat

breaking unyielding ice sheet
gleefully

builds a home with charcoal
on a pavement

from the dungeon of darkness
she was imprisoned into

You found great inspiration there with that Basho haiku… especially like the one about the street urchin.
Beautiful Haiku’s

My favourite. It is actually quite sad but at the same time and great sign of resilience
Wonderful poem morsels, Sumana. They are like leaves falling. I loved them.
What a great inspiration is Matsuo Basho! I agree with Sarah, your pieces are like [autumn] leaves falling. I especially love the first piece, the image of a phoenix among hapless souls is quite powerful.
her* dream arose
from the dungeon of darkness
How sad but it did not let her inability to see to down her resolve!

These kids have vivid imaginations and only in dreams v can they have what they want.
In each instance, I feel ache and awe. I think the last works with or without Helen Keller. Together they are a significant rosary, a prayer.
Each is a beautiful nugget!
Impressive haiku!
Such wonderful examples of rising above, Sumana. I love the Basho quote.
lovely expressions..’specially the charcoal drawing image’ beautifully composed Sumana
A beautiful poem
Each Haiku holds strong in beauty and ultimate message. Lovely writing Sumana!
