wings beating
just above
a playful water world
the wedged beak makes
a splashless entry
to pick its prize

very nice cherita Sumana
much love…
Beautiful and I have on occasion been lucky enough to watch a kingfisher fish
I haven’t seen a kingfisher fish but I have seen a fish eagle come down and scoop up its prize and it is such a humbling sight. Fabulous scene in your cherita, makes me want to get away into the wild.
Lovely visuals, Sumana. 🙂
This is truly beautiful!
Brilliant! I could visualise the process while reading!
That must be something to see. Lovely imagery.
felt like I was looking through a birdwatcher’s eyes
Love watching the kingfisher, you have imaged him well,
Elizabeth
What a lovely image and your cherita is beautifully written. I do enjoy this form.
What a beautiful little bird, and poem! Delightful.
You have really described this little bird perfectly! Such a joy to read.
I love ‘splashless entry’. A very vidid poem!
Absolutely vibrantly lvely
(lovely)
Kingfishers are always a delight to watch aren’t they? Whata beautifully worded poem Sumana.
Very impressive little poem! Vivid images.
I love the playful water world. 🙂
This is fantastic.
They are such lovely birds.
Your poem is as immaculate and as beautiful as the dazzling photo – your last three lines especially are spectacularly good.
Brilliant Sumana…
Happy Third Sunday of Advent, Thanks for dropping by my Sunday Standard today Sumana
much love…
Beautiful….such rich imagery presented in so few words.
The imagery in your poetry is as slick as the plumage of that stunning bird. Love the sound and look of the “splashless entry”.
I would so much love to see a kingfisher… such a wonderful view..
Such a gorgeous cherita, Sumana!❤️ Love the image of “splashless entry.”
lovely capture – I am not sure if I’ve ever seen one?
Lovely poem Sumana. I have seen kingfishers and birds similar. They are gorgeous and you did them justice with this poem. Holiday Blessings to you.
Very clear. Ouch as I get swallowed… as you predicted.
Nice!
You sketched the scene seamlessly and then injected that moment of ‘splashless entry’ into it so perfectly … breaking the water … and shattering the calm … it rather took my breath away. An exquisitely rendered piece, Sumana.
Crisp and alive!
I love to see the kingfisher. He is an intense bird. Loved your poem.
Perfect words for a truly lovely image. Thanks!
Sweet. I hope we can all make splashless entries and win our prize.
Obviously, this diminutive bird is the king of fishers!
