You are the jasmine night
And dew filled dawn
Of a babe cheek morn
I am always the thorn
To shield thy rose heart
From wormy word
Your banyan shade
Gives me rest
On a scorching day of distress
I long for that moonbeam smile
That’s buried under
Grief’s stormy clouds
How very beautiful!
Whistles!!❤️💖This is absolutely exquisitely penned, Sumana 😀 I love the passion and longing in these lines; “I long for that moonbeam smile that’s buried under grief’s stormy clouds” sigh.. love makes us want to do things for others and to always see them content. Thank you so much for participating at Prompt Nights and for your constant love and support.❤️💖
Lots of love,
Sanaa
This is so wonderful, I would have to quote every line back to you. Especially love the closing.
So very lovely. Your images are wonderful. I love them all but esp.” a babe cheek morn”
I like the progression of this piece and how the protagonist is protective of their lover’s heart, especially while it is feeling pain.
I hear you, Sumana. I feel the love AND the sadness!
This is lovely, an ode to the things the lover brings, the peace found only within their arms,,,
Wonderful evocative images in this tenderly rendered piece. There is so much love in these lines. And the closing stanza:
I long for that moonbeam smile
That’s buried under
Grief’s stormy clouds
is so poignant and beautiful it, literally, brought me close to tears.
Oh the images of love is wonderful- the flowers and the shade, and the sorrow.
babe cheek morn..how soft is that!!! Lovely!
I love the metaphors! Especially ‘the thorn to shield thy rose heart”. Beautiful poem 🙂
For all the sadness in the poem there is comfort too illustrated by the comfort of the banyan shade. Beautifully written Sumana.
The thorny one is often the more perceptive one, don’t you think? 😉
I long for that moonbeam smile
That’s buried under
Grief’s stormy clouds
The parting shot f the last stanza gives a lot of hope!

I am swooning over the first stanza. It’s really so incredibly gorgeous.
Sigh. Sigh. Tears of love and gratitude. I am most moved by one line after another! Here I will only observe, such love makes us fiercely protective:
“I am always the thorn
To shield thy rose heart
From wormy word”
May we always feel the love and find the way.
What fun and unexpected images. My teabag fortune this morning said, “If you want a rose, you have to respect the thorn.
Such great metaphorical imagery in this….so meaningful and evocative. I love the ‘banyan shade.’ Oh, how I love banyan trees 🙂
Your words flowed effortlessly, the first stanza was absolutely beautiful. I don’t think there is anything not to like in this one. Just lovely from start to end.
Love so beautifully expressed! Each phrase a nugget!
Yes, we do long for that smile…a beautiful poem
Such a wonderful composition! Every stanza is beautiful and meaningful in its own way. 🙂
“I am always the thorn
To shield thy rose heart” ~ Wow, I loved these lines 🙂
Thos is delicately written, Sumana. The words flow natirally and I think I am back to loving again haha 🙂
Beautiful!
a lovely pen, Sumana – and I like the new look for your blog ~
Lovely. The third stanza is my favorite. But I also love the “moonbeam smile.”
so beautiful….straight from heart … ❤ ❤
Like a whisper… gently penned.
